Sanger Students Excel at Lions Club Youth Contests
Colleyville, Texas – January 17, 2026 —

Students from Sanger ISD earned top honors at the Lions Club Youth Contests held January
17 in Colleyville, Texas. The competition was hosted by Lions District 2E2, representing 52
Lions Clubs across North Texas, and highlighted student excellence in academics,
leadership, and community awareness.
Sanger High School Charli Davis and Nathan Phelps, along with Sanger Middle School
student Amelia Sapian, proudly represented the Sanger Lions Club and achieved
outstanding results at the district level.
Charli Davis, a senior at Sanger High School, earned 1st Place in the Outstanding Youth
Contest for her essay titled “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Its Impact on Education.” She
was awarded a $2,000 scholarship and will advance to the Lions State Outstanding Youth
Contest on May 16, 2026. Scholarships awarded at the state contest include $3,000 for 1st
Place, $2,000 for 2nd Place, and $1,000 for 3rd Place.
Nathan Phelps, also a senior at Sanger High School, received 2nd Place in the Diabetes
Awareness Essay Contest for his essay titled “Managing Diabetes and the Emotional
Impact of Adolescents.” He was awarded a $1,500 scholarship.
Both the Outstanding Youth Contest and the Diabetes Awareness Essay Contest are open
to high school juniors and seniors.
Amelia Sapian, a student at Sanger Middle School, won 1st Place in the Sanger Lions Club
Peace Poster Contest and earned an Honorable Mention at the Lions District 2E2 Peace
Poster Contest. The Peace Poster Contest is open to students ages 11, 12, and 13 and
encourages youth to express their vision of peace through art.
The Sanger Lions Club also announced that Spring 2026 Lions Club Scholarships for
graduating seniors will be available mid to late February, with $6,000 in scholarships
to be awarded.
The Sanger Lions Club congratulates these students on their achievements and thanks the
families, educators, and Lions volunteers who support youth leadership, service, and
academic success.
